Golf best bets: Outright picks for the RSM Classic

The PGA Tour returns to the United States this week for the RSM Classic at Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia, and it'll be great to see some familiar faces back on the golf course. Open champion Brian Harman (+2000) headlines the field as the only player ranked inside the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking, but Ludvig Aberg (+1400) and Russell Henley (+1600) are both ahead of him on the odds board.

Let's hone in on three players to target with outright bets for the RSM Classic.

Corey Conners (+2500 DraftKings)

Sea Island Golf Club is a short hitter's paradise. Past winners here include Kevin Kisner, Chris Kirk, Mackenzie Hughes and Charles Howell III, so it's clear iron play and short game matter much more than distance off the tee at this 7,000-yard venue.

When you think about elite iron players who consistently take advantage of shorter approach shots, Corey Conners is always near the top of the list. Conners is deadly accurate off the tee, and he's gained strokes on approach in 20 of his 25 starts this season. The Canadian has also gained strokes on approach in all four of his starts at Sea Island leading to three straight top-25 finishes. If the putter gets hot this week, Conners will surely be in the mix come Sunday afternoon.

Si Woo Kim (+3500 FanDuel)

Si Woo Kim is another player who excels on shorter golf courses. The 28-year-old won earlier this season at the Sony Open at Waialae Golf Club, which is a perfect comp course for Sea Island because of its similar length and Bermuda grass layout.

Kim is priced in this range because he's lost strokes on approach in three straight starts and has been cold with the putter, but he can easily turn that around on a golf course that fits his game well.

Webb Simpson (+10000 FD)

Talk about a horse for the course. Webb Simpson has made a living off dominating shorter golf courses, especially this one. In 11 career starts at Sea Island, Simpson has six top-12 finishes and just one missed cut. That MC came last year in one of the worst putting weeks of his entire career, so odds are that won't happen again at a venue he knows so well.

Simpson finished T5 at the Wyndham Championship three starts ago, so the 38-year-old still has what it takes to compete at this level.
