Wisconsin Women’s Basketball News: Seniors Back, Coach Leaves, & More

Douglass and Leuzinger will both be back for Marisa Moseley’s Badgers in 2024-25 and they will provide important veteran leadership in the locker room and on the court. Leuzinger appeared in 32 games (starting 29) and Douglass appeared in 25 with five starts last year while being integral parts of UW’s rotation.

Leuzinger averaged 7.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.6 apg and shot 42.6% from the field. Douglass chipped in 3.8 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.5 apg and shot 35.0% from beyond the arc. I love both of these players coming back for Wisconsin women’s basketball because Leuzinger is the consummate role player who does all of the little things that help teams win and Douglass, who will be a full year removed from her ACL injury, is a Swiss army knife wing that can fill multiple roles.

Wisconsin Women’s Basketball Assistant Takes Head Coaching Job

After one season on staff in Madison as an assistant, Tiffany Morton will be the new head coach at West Alabama next season. Previously a member of the coaching staff at Rice, Georgia State, Mercer, Wagner, and LSU, Morton was a big help in the further development of Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Serah Williams.

While it is tough to lose an assistant the year after losing three of them, it’s a good problem to have if your staff keeps leaving for head coaching jobs. Hopefully Morton finds success at UWA and we see the Marisa Moseley coaching tree expand further.

Two Former Badgers Find New Homes

Wisconsin women’s basketball lost a pair of backup post players to the transfer portal this offseason and both of them found new homes this week. Tessa Towers (Batavia, Ill.) is headed to Ball State to continue her career and Sacia Vanderpool (Byron, Minn.) will be going west to North Dakota State.

Neither found much playing time in Madison and I hope that they’re both able to crack the rotations in their new homes and finish their careers on a high note.
