Steelers Scouting Report: Rutgers CB Max Melton Provides Proven Performance
Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

While the Pittsburgh Steelers enter the 2024 NFL Draft with glaring holes at wide receiver and center, the cornerback room also needs addressed at some point. After releasing Patrick Peterson and letting Levi Wallace walk in free agency, the Steelers are down two players that started games in 2023. Unless one of the top guys in the draft falls, the Steelers will address that position on Day Two of the draft. One name to look out for is Rutgers standout Max Melton.

SN analyst Derrick Bell breaks down the scouting report for Melton: where he excels and the things that he’ll need to work on as he transitions to the next level. Melton brings experience as he was a four-year starter for the Scarlet Knights and amasses over 40 career starts and over 2,000 defensive snaps at the collegiate level. Additionally, Melton tested in the elite category in regard to athleticism as his Relative Athletic Score was a 9.09. While Melton does not fit the “avatar” frame that the Steelers like, Melton does have longer arms.

With his long arms and unique athletic ability, Melton would be a steal if the Steelers could snag him on the second day of the draft.
