Patriots reportedly have official top-30 visit set with UCF WR Javon Baker
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots have their eye on one wide receiver heading into the 2024 NFL Draft.

And they want to get a closer look.

According to Sportskeeda's Tony Pauline, the Patriots are among three teams that have a top-30 visit scheduled with University of Central Florida wide receiver Javon Baker

The Houston Texans and the Kansas City Chiefs also have a visit set up with the receiver.

Baker had his best season in 2023, finishing with 52 receptions for 1,139 yards and seven touchdown. He was named first-team All-Big 12.

In his three prior seasons, he had a total of six touchdowns total. So he truly showed teams what he is capable of heading into the most important time of his career.

The receiver began his college career with Alabama in 2020 and 2021, but entered the transfer portal after his second year. While he originally committed to play for the University of Kentucky, he switched and ended up at the University of Central Florida.

A to Z Sports' Travis May provided some more context on Baker.

"He got a bit buried at Alabama behind some first round talents, but he was always talented. Was Top 20 in the nation in air yards in 2022, but John Rhys Plumlee just couldn’t accurately get him the ball, so the season could have been incredible if not for a few missed deep targets. In 2023 he was the most efficient power conference wide receiver in the nation averaging almost 22 yards per reception. Excellent deep threat with underrated route running skills. Round 3 or 4 possible, but conversations at Senior Bowl suggest perhaps a bit later," May wrote.

Baker ran a 4.54 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, showing that he has the ability to get down the field. He is also known for being able to make some tough catches and could be a sneaky good pick for the Patriots in the draft.
