Our favorite athlete Halloween costumes

If you saw Lillard’s blank expression after burying the Thunder a couple years ago, you know that “Stone Cold” would be a fitting nickname for him as well. Sure, the mask is cheap and store bought, and the rest of the costume is pretty much just jeans and a T-shirt, but honestly the absurdity of the mask just makes us like it more.

Judge is the rare baseball player with the size of your average basketball player. While an athlete dressing like a different athlete isn’t super outside-the-box, it’s also kind of incredible how much Gordon looks like his fellow Aaron.

Howard finally has a ring thanks to his return to the Lakers, but maybe he'd prefer Infinity Stones? That's the vibe we get from the fact he dressed like Thanos, the primary villain of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for many films, for Halloween. Weirdly, despite Howard's size, Thanos is one guy who actually makes Dwight look small in comparison.

McDavid may be the best player in the NHL, but he’ll go a long way with some folks for dressing up like the iconic patriarch of “The Simpsons” for Halloween. His girlfriend, Lauren Kyle, joined him by dressing as Marge. However, once you realize that the white circles around their eyes are part of their eyes — so they sort of have eyes within eyes — it becomes a little horrifying.

“Avatar” made a ton of money, even if it didn’t make a huge cultural impact. We all remember that the aliens in the movie were blue and had long hair at least. All that said, there is a real attention to detail in the makeup on Hopkins’ costume. The Cardinals receiver is painted basically head to toe in blue, not unlike Tobias Funke.

Delle Donne’s costume is a little on the store-bought side, although we don’t know how many stores have costumes for 6-foot-5 professional athletes. The key here is that Delle Donne’s basketball body gives her the long limbs to work as the Pumpkin King. You may notice in the video that she takes FIVE steps in one fell swoop on the stairs.

“Black Panther” was a huge hit in 2018, and it inspired a few Halloween costumes. One of the people who decided to dress up as the defender of Wakanda is Gregorius, the Yankees shortstop. We also like the fact the post he made of his costume makes it look like a holiday card more than a Halloween thing. And, of course, R.I.P. to Chadwick Boseman.

Jackie Moon could only dream of having Klay’s skills. While he may have played and coached for the Flint Tropics, an ABA team he also owned, he never had what it took to be a Splash Brother. Of course, Thompson never fought a bear, so we’ll call it even.

LeBron seems to love Halloween. He’s dressed up a few times and had some apparently pretty impressive Halloween parties. He had an impressive Pennywise of his own in 2017, but in 2018 he went with the hockey-mask wearing Jason. Of course, at the time he was trying to produce a reboot of “Friday the 13th,” so there may have been ulterior motives here.

Elliott is admittedly not a difficult costume to pull off, even if you are a 7-foot man with giant hair. It’s really just a red, hooded sweatshirt. However, what sells Lopez’s costume is that he also has a bike with a fake little E.T. on it. Also, he rode it through the back of an arena before a game.

Last year was the 30th anniversary of the Milli Vanilli controversy, when the hit duo was shown to be not actually singing its songs. It was a couple of years ago that the power couple of D-Wade and Union decided to dress up as Milli Vanilli, right down to the dreadlocks.

Steph’s costume is a little raggedy; mostly the wig. It kind of seems like he just pulled it out of the bag. Regardless, seeing the multiple-time MVP riding around on a tricycle through a parking lot is a sight to behold.

You know those little green army men that kids played with from the ‘50s through the ‘90s or so? They are pretty ubiquitous, or at least were. Marc-Andre Fleury grew up in a time of army men. What makes his costume cool is that it includes the little platforms the feet are attached to. We imagine he did a lot of standing perfectly still at parties that year.

To nobody’s surprise, Subban has had a few good costumes over the years. The man has the biggest personality in the NHL. One time he was a cowboy riding a pig, but that was a pretty basic store-bought costume. His Prince, though, was a spot-on tribute to the Purple One.

NWA have been looming figures in music for many years, but when “Straight Outta Compton” came out, it brought them back into the limelight. It’s not necessarily difficult to dress as Eazy E. What’s impressive is that Thomas REALLY looks like Eazy E in his costume.

This one comes with a bit of an asterisk. In the photo Luongo posted on Twitter, it seems pretty clear he just threw on a costume he picked up off the rack. It also doesn’t fit in the slightest. That’s what makes it so funny, though. Luongo was a great goalie, but he also has a great sense of humor.

We are not here to litigate the quality of the bizarre cult classic “Napoleon Dynamite.” It’s perfectly fine if people like that bad movie. Regardless of how you feel about the film, Pence’s Napoleon costume is pretty great. Pedro, by the way, is portrayed by Pence’s wife, Alexis.

When Harvey was a Met, he had the nickname of “The Dark Knight.” As such, it’s kind of clever for him to dress as Joker. Well, kind of. He’s only half Joker, with the other half just being a guy in a suit. Did Harvey conflate Joker and Two-Face? Also, how perfect would it be for a guy named Harvey to dress up as Two-Face?

There were a few iconic characters on Dave Chappelle’s beloved sketch show. Sure, one of them is Rick James, who is less a character and more a real person. Of the fictional characters, though, Tyrone Biggums was the most famous. He…had some issues. Many of them involved crack cocaine. Moe Harkless’ costume is pretty pitch perfect.

Tom Brady has one of the most famous faces in the world, but one Halloween he hid it behind a bushy Bigfoot mask. This is a pretty nice costume, although we're worried about the fate of that little dog Bigfoot is holding.

Ah, the good old days. Remember when Russ was a happy member of the Thunder? Adams' Joker costume is really impressive. Westbrook's Adams costume? Not so much, but it's still funny.

This is the perfect costume for a 7-footer. Lurch loomed over the rest of the Addams Family, even when he was playing organ and becoming a music sensation with teens. (This really happened on the show). Nowitzki could easily play Lurch if there is ever another live-action reboot.

Sure, he's mostly known as an actor now, but once upon a time he was a pro wrestler. If you don't consider that sports, before that he played college football at Miami. His insane physique kind of makes him a real-life Popeye. We don't know how much spinach he eats.

Yes, we're giving LeBron two entries. One, he's the best basketball player of his generation and a living legend. Two, the guy goes all out for Halloween. Just look at this Pennywise costume. It's incredible. The only thing that could make that killer clown more terrifying is if he was LeBron's size.
