Jacksonville Jaguars Waive Former CFL Star QB Nathan Rourke

Last week's excitement of quarterback Nathan Rourke joining an NFL active roster appears to have come to an end...for now.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday that the former CFL quarterback was waived from Jacksonville's active roster to make room for wide receiver and return specialist Jamal Agnew, who was activated from the injured reserve list.

3Down Nation reported that, due to the timing of the release, Rouke will still receive a gameday check for Sunday's matchup with Baltimore. He earns $41,666 per week on the active roster.

Rourke garnered attention during his two years with the BC Lions, including a breakout 2022 season in which he threw for 3,349 yards and 25 touchdowns in 10 games and led BC to the playoffs. He also won the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian award that same season.

Back in January, he signed a three-year contract with the Jaguars. While he didn’t make the final 53-man roster at the end of preseason, he was brought back to Jacksonville on their practice squad. Prior to last week, he was on the active roster one other time in mid-October.

With the move completed, Rourke will be heading back to the practice squad, with his third-string spot secure behind starter Trevor Lawrence and backup CJ Beathard. It may not be the last time we hear of Rourke moving around on the Jaguars’ roster this season.
