Vettell Recalls Last Conversation With Schumacher 10 Year After Accident

Former F1 driver and four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel recently spoke about his relationship with Michael Schumacher and their last conversation before the accident.

Three days ago, it was ten years since Michael Schumacher's horrible accident in the Swiss Alps that changed his and his family's life forever.

Sebastian Vettel was firstly a competitor and a rival of Schumacher, but the two Germans started becoming bigger and bigger friends around the years 2012-2013. He recently said in an interview with RTL:

"It’s still very, very difficult. I don’t want to say to accept it, but to accept that he continues to fight. Yes, of course, I only wish him the best. But it’s still very often a topic I think about privately and I think about a lot and that is definitely a recurring theme."

Schumacher was in a critical condition after his accident, and even though he survived, reports suggest he has not been the same and his health status is held private by his family. Vettel remembered their last conversation:

"Of course, the first thoughts immediately went to the last conversation we had together and that couldn’t be more positive. I told him that I was going to be a father and what was coming for us."

Ralf Schumacher lately talked about his brother as well. Schumacher has been not only his role model but a role model to thousands of young racers some of which made it to F1 and race on the grid today. Vettel added:

"And I think I really appreciated it towards the end in that sense, where our relationship became stronger and stronger before the accident. Because I think we both got to know each other more and more and racing was no longer the biggest thing we had in common, but life in general and life with and around racing. And I just miss my friend."
