Martin Brundle claims F1 needs to bring a rule for full liveries to prevent 'glum and half-finished' designs

Martin Brundle claimed that the grid needs to have complete liveries to be more appealing to the viewers. Cars such as the AMR24 or even the VCARB01 certainly stand out. Subsequently, Brundle reckoned that such a change could be necessary in stopping Formula 1 from becoming full of half-finished and dull liveries.

The field should look dynamic, it’s F1. Some of them look glum and half finished.

Is the Formula 1 grid on the verge of losing color?

Formula 1 is known for having some of the best liveries in the world of motorsport. Liveries act as moving billboards for sponsors with more striking designs grabbing the attention of viewers. However, the increasing concerns over the weight of the car have restricted more colorful designs.

Teams such as Red Bull and Ferrari are perhaps the only two squads that are likely to keep complete designs. As pointed out by Martin Brundle, such liveries are usually the most loved by fans in the paddock. It must be noted that the aforementioned two teams use matte paint to save some weight while still painting the majority of their cars.

Certainly, the Formula 1 grid is on the verge of losing some striking liveries. Weight has become a major concern for teams which has come at a cost of paint. However, the 2026 F1 regulations could manage to put an end to this disappointing trend from teams. As the new cars are planned to be much lighter than the current machinery at the pinnacle of motorsport.
