Lewis Hamilton claims his MIGHTY Shanghai Sprint race P2 is the ‘best result’ he’s had for a while in F1

During the first lap of the race, Hamilton was also able to get the better of McLaren driver, Lando Norris who started the event from the pole position.

That is the best result that I've had in a while. I was not able to fight the Red Bull's, but we have made progress, and I have learnt quite a lot from the car in this stint which bodes well for tomorrow. Lewis Hamilton said in post sprint race interview

The 39-year-old has made it known that he is immensely pleased with the progress that Mercedes has made since landing in Shanghai. However, despite his optimism, he has also not shied away from admitting that the Red Bulls are just too mighty. Max Verstappen won the Chinese GP Sprint race by a margin of over 13 seconds.

Lewis Hamilton not very optimistic ahead of Chinese GP qualifying

While Lewis Hamilton has applauded his team for the work they have done with the W15, he feels that it will not be enough to challenge at the extreme north end of the grid during the upcoming qualifying session. Red Bull, Ferrari, and even McLaren have so far had better one-lap pace than Mercedes.

Hamilton is banking on changes to the car to have a decent outing in quali.

We are still not as quick as over a single lap - I don't anticipate we'll be fighting for the front row, but we will make some changes in between these three hours to try and have a better qualifying session. Lewis Hamilton said in the same interview

The Mercedes F1 team has so far proved to be the fourth-fastest team on the 2024 grid. This is nowhere near the high standards that the team was used to during the turbo hybrid era. However, rain is expected to play a part in the upcoming session, and considering this, it could help Hamilton and co. in landing their cars in decent starting positions for tomorrow’s race!
