George Russell claims having Sebastian Vettel replace Lewis Hamilton will not ‘change the way’ he does his job

Lewis Hamilton ‘s move to Ferrari from 2025 has opened up a spot in Mercedes. Team boss Toto Wolff is in search of a replacement for the seven-time world champion. The Austrian billionaire previously named a couple of drivers who could take Hamilton’s seat including Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel . George Russell reckoned that Vettel’s entry would not lead to massive changes within Brackley.

Toto Wolff had previously declared that George Russell would be the ‘lead driver’ following Lewis Hamilton‘s switch to Ferrari. Sebastian Vettel recently mentioned that he had been in talks with Toto Wolff. Moreover, Wolff recently praised the four-time world champion amidst the rumors. Additionally, even Hamilton shared his thoughts on the situation.

George Russell talked highly of Sebastian Vettel and how the German was such a ‘great’ person. Additionally, the 26-year-old asserted that the four-time world champion was ‘missed’ on the grid following his retirement in 2022. Apart from this, the Briton pointed out the importance of having the 20 best drivers on the grid in the pinnacle of motorsport.

Sebastian is a great person and is a four-time world champion one can certainly say that we miss him on the starting grid. I think it's important to have the 20 best drivers in the world in Formula 1. George Russell said, as reported by formulapassion.it.

However, Russell didn’t have many criteria or conditions for the upcoming driver to possess. Hence, the-26-year-old made it clear that it doesn’t matter if his new teammate was a world champion or a rookie. The Briton’s way of doing his job in Formula 1 would be the same regardless. Although Russell mentioned that he would welcome Sebastian Vettel to the Silver Arrows.

I have already said it and I repeat it: I am open to any teammate, whether he's a world champion or a rookie, this doesn't change the way I do my job. George Russell noted.

George Russell revealed Lewis Hamilton’s exit has ‘made things better’

Many were curious to find out the exact reason Lewis Hamilton’s Mercedes exit. Hamilton has been racing for the Silver Arrows for the past 13 years. Hence, things would change drastically after his exit. Amidst this, Russell mentioned that his relationship with the seven-time world champion had improved.

If anything, I could argue that things are better, to be honest.

George Russell was full of praises for Hamilton for being rational and constructive regarding the team’s development for the coming years. The entire ordeal of the 39-year-old helping the team in his final year was a ‘positive’ for the constructor according to George Russell.

Of course, we’re in a different situation but I think Lewis has been very rational and constructive and objective when we’re talking with the team, with the feedback. That’s only a positive.

Certainly, George Russell remains focused on his campaign with Mercedes for the future. Sebastian Vettel could be the ideal replacement for Lewis Hamilton as a multiple world champion with a massive following. However, the Silver Arrows will take some time before making any calls on the driver line-up. As such, fans need to wait and see who is partnered with Russell next year.
