F1 teams reportedly want 10-team limit in new Concorde Agreement to block Andretti-Cadillac entry

The FIA has allowed 12 F1 squads to participate in the sport after resolving commercial terms, despite a $200 million anti-dilution fee. The governing body launched a tender process to secure more entries, with Andretti being the only potential prospect.

However, Andretti lost the attempt to join F1 at the end of January. The decision-makers claimed that the Andretti group did not add value to the series and that it was not confident that the American outfit would be a competitive team, these were the reasons why their application was rejected.

The Concorde Agreement, set to be signed from 2026 to 2030, is being criticized for its potential to close operations and halt grid expansion due to the increasing value of F1 and its teams. As understood by renowned reporter, Joe Saward, F1 and the teams aim to limit competitors to ten, requiring newcomers to purchase existing entries to compete.

However, despite the recent rejection, Andretti and General Motors remain optimistic about its application for a future Andretti Cadillac entry. The team’s competitiveness may improve with the latter’s power unit in 2028 and decent financial support.

Andretti has unveiled their new Silverstone factory

As indicated earlier, in 2025 or 2026, Andretti and General Motors Cadillac attempted to join the grid after completing the first FIA application stages, but FOM rejected their application. Michael Andretti‘s second attempt to take over Sauber and join the grid failed as well. However, Andretti has not given up on the F1 dream as the team unveiled their new factory in Silverstone.

We have embarked on the next stage of our preparations to enter the FIA Formula One World Championship with the opening of a new facility at Silverstone Park, UK. Joined by the existing Andretti Cadillac UK workforce of approximately 80 people, we had the honor today of inaugurating this new British home for our wider Andretti family. The recently built factory at Silverstone Park in Towcester, close to the Silverstone circuit and Aston Martin’s F1 facility, has been leased by Michael Andretti and his father, Mario Andretti. The current 80-person Andretti Cadillac workforce in the UK will be housed in the 48,000-square-foot facility. It is a milestone for the team because the independent property enables the group to expand operations and work toward a potential future entry.
