Red Bull Racing has dominated Formula 1 in the ground-effect era. However, Scuderia Ferrari might finally match the reigning world champions this season. Carlos Sainz won the Australian GP in an incredible 1-2 for Maranello after Max Verstappen ‘s retirement. Now, former F1 driver Rene Arnoux  has made a bold claim regarding the 2024 Constructors’ Championship.

Arnoux claimed that hoped to see a duel for the team’s title this year between Red Bull and Ferrari. The Frenchman urged the Scuderia to try to negate its pace deficit to the Austrian team over the course of this season.

I want to see a real duel. That is why I would also like to see Ferrari each time subtracting some advantage from Red Bull and being able to compete for the title of builders. Rene Arnoux told La Gazzetta dello Sport

Moreover, Rene Arnoux reckoned that if Maranello did not face major issues this year, then Ferrari could almost be more likely to win the Constuctors’ title than Milton Keynes. Fred Vasseur recently claimed that winning the team’s title was the Scuderia’s goal this year.

In fact, I think if Ferrari doesn't have big problems this season, they are almost more likely to win the title of builders than Red Bull. Rene Arnoux stated

The 75-year-old praised Carlos Sainz’s drive at Albert Park. Arnoux mentioned that even though Verstappen retired from the race, the Scuderia managed to make the most out of the weekend. The Frenchman recalled that Ferrari was often quicker than Red Bull over one lap last season. Now, the Australian GP confirmed that Maranello was much closer to Milton Keynes in 2024.

Sainz really drove a fantastic weekend in Australia. Sure, Max Verstappen quit, but Ferrari was able to get the most out of it. We already knew that Ferrari's car was faster than last year and we also see that they are much closer to Red Bull. We saw it confirmed in Australia. Rene Arnoux noted

Rene Arnoux claims Red Bull only has one car ahead of Ferrari

Max Verstappen is the favorite to win the 2024 season on the back of his record-breaking campaign last season. On the other hand, Sergio Perez has struggled to match his world-champion teammate. The Mexican driver’s car suffered damage which affected his performance at the Australian GP.

Rene Arnoux highlighted that Ferrari was not on Red Bull’s level at the moment. However, Maranello was only behind Max Verstappen, signaling that Perez had failed to be a real threat to the two Ferrari drivers. The Frenchman claimed that if the Scuderia could continue its victorious run in the coming races, then the Italian team had a real shot at the title.

They're not at the Red Bull level yet, but almost. However, it is also true that Red Bull only has one car in front of the Ferrari... I think they can go for victories and from there I would not know why they could not also go for the title. Rene Arnoux concluded

Ferrari has bridged the gap with Red Bull to a significant extent this season. However, there is a lot of work to be done at the Italian team if it truly wants topple Milton Keynes in the standings. Fans would be hoping to see a real two-way battle for the F1 championship this season.
