Carlos Sainz was left shocked when he was told about not acquiring a contract extension for 2025 and beyond, despite performing at the level of his teammate, Charles Leclerc . However, months after this announcement, the Spaniard seems to be in prime position for a Red Bull drive next year. But, Damon Hill has deemed the move impossible under the current leadership of the Austrian giant.

Carlos Sainz received a major setback when he got to know that he would be replaced by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari. Since then, Sainz has been motivated to excel in his performances and has thus, had a 100% podium record so far this year.

He also triumphed in the Australian GP. These strong run of performances have warranted him to be on the shortlist of Red Bull for 2025. However, former champion, Damon Hill reckons otherwise.

I think it would be an absolute tragedy if Carlos Sainz doesn’t find a top seat next year. He deserves to be in a top team. Look at his drive today. Mercedes is the only option. Red Bull won’t work with Max. The team is run by the Verstappen family. Damon Hill said

The former champion was adamant that if the 29-year-old did not land a seat in one of the top teams, it would be disgraceful for the sport. However, there is no chance for Sainz to move to Red Bull as in his opinion, the team is centered around Max Verstappen.

Moreover, they would not like competition for the Dutchman and would ideally like to continue with Sergio Perez. Keeping the above in view, it makes sense as to why Hill would deem Mercedes as Sainz’s best option for 2025.

Damon Hill claims it’s not good for Charles Leclerc to get beaten by Carlos Sainz

Charles Leclerc has been constantly outshined by his ousted teammate so far in the 2024 season. This has raised eyebrows around the paddock and whether the prancing horses may have made the wrong decision about sacking Sainz.

Subsequently, post-qualifying in Japan, Hill gave his verdict on the awkward situation at Ferrari.

There are people who impressed a lot and their team-mate, perhaps, hasn't done such a great job. You can only say the reason why Charles[Leclerc] is unhappy is because he's been beaten by a guy who's really on top form [and] who[Carlos Sainz] is leaving the team. This is not a good look. Damon Hill said in an interview with Sky Sports

The 63-year-old explained how it was not great for the Monegasque to be beaten by his outgoing teammate. Subsequently, this has piled pressure on Leclerc to improve, or else, he could lose his charm as the lead driver for the Scuderia.

However, there is still a long way till the end of the 2024 season and the 26-year-old will receive ample chances before the Spaniard departs for a new adventure. The upcoming races will be fascinating to watch from the point of view of the Ferrari fans.
