Christian Horner claims ‘not worrying’ about Max Verstappen has helped Sergio Perez

Horner revealed how the 34-year-old’s form has improved due to his different mindset and approach to last season, wherein he was concentrating too much on what Max Verstappen was doing. This streak of improved performances will definitely help the Mexican retain his Red Bull seat for 2025.

After the second safety car restart, Sergio Perez was in P4 just behind Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris. With the dominant nature of the RB20, it seemed like a matter of time before the Mexican overtook the pair with ease and secured a P2 finish at the Chinese GP.

But, the driver struggled to overtake Leclerc and couldn’t find the pace to match Norris which led him to finish P3. This was pretty surprising to a lot of fans and pundits alike. Following the result, Christian Horner revealed why the No.11 driver couldn’t catch the McLaren.

We had to stop again to converge on strategy with the McLaren and the Ferrari, and he took some time to overtake Charles, which meant he used the tyres more.

The Red Bull boss added how the Mexican’s original strategy had to be altered due to the safety cars which led him to fall behind. He also shared how the 34-year-old used up too much of his tires while overtaking the Scarlet Red Ferrari of Leclerc. It caused him to lack the pace to get the better of Norris in the final few laps of the 56-lap Shanghai event. As things stand, Perez is currently second in the driver’s championship with 85 points to his name.
