Lewis Hamilton decided to join Scuderia Ferrari next year before the start of the 2024 season. The seven-time world champion will leave Mercedes after a couple of underwhelming campaigns in the ground-effect era. Now, former F1 world champion Alain Prost has raised concerns about Hamilton’s motivation to perform in 2025.

Prost mentioned that Lewis Hamilton’s decision to leave Mercedes was understandable considering his winless stint in the past two seasons. The Frenchman highlighted that the 39-year-old could use 2025 to blend in the team before the 2026 regulations.

I can understand his [Lewis Hamilton's] decision... you can go to Ferrari, especially with the regulation change in ‘26. Then you only have one year, ‘25, that way you can [settle into the team]. Alain Prost told Sports Illustrated

However, Alain Prost claimed that perception would be different next year. Lewis Hamilton will be 40 years old when he joins Maranello. Subsequently, Prost wondered if the seven-time world champion would be able to gain back motivation once he races in red. Although, the Frenchman reckoned that this was possible if Ferrari has a decent campaign next year.

He will be one year older and will he find his motivation back being at Ferrari? It is possible because if it's for a short time, maybe only one year, if Ferrari is going well, I think he could find the motivation back. Alain Prost stated

Alain Prost questions if Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari switch is a ‘good move’

The seven-time world champion signed a $430 million contract with Maranello on a two-year deal. Alain Prost speculated if Lewis Hamilton made the right call to join the Italian team. Although, the Frenchman claimed that the same question could be asked to Ferrari as well. Nevertheless, Prost reckoned that Hamilton’s Ferrari switch was certainly good for the sport.

The question is, is it a good move? Is it going to be a good choice? Also, for Ferrari, you could ask the question. It’s good for the sport because everybody's going to watch. Alain prost asserted

Moreover, Alain Prost affirmed that it could be difficult for Lewis Hamilton to blend in at Maranello, with Charles Leclerc staying in the team since 2019 as a full-time driver. Hamilton has spent his entire career at English teams, McLaren and Mercedes. As such, a switch to Italy could take some time getting used to for the seven-time world champion.

[He has had] such a long period with an English team, Mercedes, with a way of working and then you go to an Italian team, especially with the different pressure, different way of thinking. Alain Prost mentioned

Lewis Hamilton has high ambitions for his future in F1 with the Scuderia. The Briton targets a record-breaking eighth world title in the coming seasons. However, it remains to be seen if Hamilton’s union with Ferrari pays off next season. For now, the seven-time world champion is fully focused on his final season at Mercedes.
