Alain Prost breaks down the KEY to winning an F1 world championship with Max Verstappen example
Lucas Peltier-USA TODAY Sports

Max Verstappen has dominated Formula 1 for the past couple of seasons. The Dutch driver has been in a league of his own in the sport’s ground-effect era. Subsequently, the three-time world champion looks set to emerge victorious yet again this year. Now, four-time F1 world champion Alain Prost highlighted the key trait of Verstappen that has led to his incredible success.

Prost reckoned that to be an F1 world champion, a driver must be quick and consistent. The Frenchman highlighted that after winning the title, it becomes difficult to set a new goal. Alain Prost pointed out that for Max Verstappen, this was even more significant as the Dutch driver had won three back-to-back titles.

To become world champion one must combine speed with constancy. Once the first title is won, philosophy changes… now you need a new goal. This is particularly important in a situation like Verstappen today. He now has three titles and won many races in 2023.

Alain Prost told Servus TV

The 69-year-old was convinced that Verstappen had adapted to this problem perfectly. So much so, that Prost claimed that the lifestyle and character of the 26-year-old showed that he was still hungry for success.

don't recognize a problem with Max from this point of view. The way he leads his life, his attitude, his character, always seems fresh and hungry for success

Additionally, Alain Prost highlighted that many expect a successful driver to fail eventually. However, the Frenchman claimed that Max Verstappen was aware and managed to deal with this pressure. The former world champion even predicted that Verstappen was motivated to win his fourth consecutive F1 world championship this year.

When you have so many wins, some people expect you to be successful again. Others expect you to stumble, because they want to see other drivers win or want news. I think Max is very aware of his situation… I see a Verstappen motivated on the fourth title road as it was a year ago on the third street.
