The Duplass brothers are producing a Tony Hawk documentary

Tony Hawk is already immortalized, but why not throw in a feature-length documentary for good measure?

Variety exclusively reported Tuesday (Aug. 3) that a feature-length documentary about the life and legendary skateboarding career of Hawk. The Duplass brothers, Jay and Mark, will produce in partnership with ICM Partners, and Sam Jones will direct.

"We’ve been quietly working on this one for a few years," Mark Duplass told Variety. "We are floored with the unmitigated access Tony has allowed us to his life and his fascinating relationship to the sport."

"We have already shot everything for it, it’s just in the editing process," Hawk, 53, added. "I definitely wanted to give them as much footage and interview as possible."

Hawk, also known as "Birdman," revolutionized skateboarding to the tune of 12-straight world championships and ubiquitous video game series, which has already earned its own documentary.

The husband and father of four retired from competition in 2003 but has continued to skate recreationally while serving as an ambassador for the sport that made its Olympic debut in Tokyo last week. Hawk was an NBC correspondent.

Duplass Brothers Productions previously signed a four-year, first-look deal with HBO, as reportedly exclusively by Variety in January 2020.
