The best musicals nominated for Oscars

"La La Land" is one of the top contenders to win this year's Best Picture at the Academy Awards. A loving tribute to one of Hollywood's favorite genres, "La La Land" is a throwback to musicals of the past with stunning set pieces and dance sequences to go with memorable original songs. In honor of the numerous Oscar nominations Damien Chazelle's love letter to showstoppers is bound to receive, let's run down our favorite previous movie musicals to receive Oscar nominations and — in some cases — win big.
