George Clooney laments people filming his 2018 motorbike crash: 'You really are here just for their entertainment'

George Clooney opened up about his 2018 motorbike accident that resulted in hospitalization, and while he has fully physically recovered from the scary accident, he still has some emotional scars.

The two-time Oscar winner admitted to The Sunday Times that he "was waiting for my switch to turn off" while lying on the ground after flying over his handlebars when his bike collided with a car at 75 miles per hour on the Italian island of Sardinia. "I'm fine now," he noted, but then recalled a crowd forming and filming him.

"If you're in the public eye, what you realize when you're on the ground thinking it's the last minute of your life is that, for some people, it's just going to be entertainment for their Facebook page," Clooney said. "I'm a pretty positive guy, but that told me—clearly—that you really are here just for their entertainment."

The 60-year-old star previously discussed the crash with GQ last November, around the same time he had undergone neck surgery to fix "a disk problem," which was inked to the accident.

“He literally turned directly in front of me,” Clooney told writer Zach Baron of the car with which he collided. "I launched. I go head over heels. But I landed on my hands and knees. If you did it 100 times, maybe once you land on your hands and knees, and any other version you land, you're toast. It knocked me out of my shoes. ... When I hit the ground, my mouth—I thought all my teeth were broken out. But it was glass from the windshield."

Clooney described that he thought about the possibility that he would never get to see his two kids again before expressing the same exact sentiment a year ago as he did with The Sunday Times:

"I was on the ground. I was really screaming. Like, really screaming. And [production partner] Grant [Heslov] came back, and he was screaming at everybody to get an ambulance, and I remember everybody got out of their cars, they stopped in the middle of the street, and all these people came and stood over me and just pulled out their phones and started taking video.

"It's a funny thing. I'm not a cynical guy, and I really tend to look at life and try to find the good in everything. But I'll never forget the moment that what I thought might be my last few moments was for everyone else a piece of entertainment."

The crash happened as Clooney and Heslov were en route to the set of Hulu miniseries Catch-22.

Clooney shares four-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, with his wife of seven years, Amal.
