Rohit Sharma has been the captain of the Indian T20 side since 2021, replacing Virat Kohli . Ever since he became captain, he has captained the Indian side 34 times. After a huge break from T20I cricket, he is set to captain the Indian side in the 2024 T20 World Cup, but some don’t agree with his appointment.

Rohit Sharma has played only three T20Is since November 2022, sitting out after losing to England in the T20 World Cup semi-finals. Despite this, he was appointed as India’s captain for the 2024 T20 World Cup, with only three T20Is played in a span of 22 months.

Joy Bhattacharjya, who used to be Kolkata Knight Riders’ director, claimed Sharma is not the ideal choice for the World Cup. He further added that his selection will hamper the team.

The decision to appoint Rohit Sharma as India’s captain for the T20 World Cup may have hampered the team. At this point, Sharma is not the ideal choice to lead the team in the T20I format. Joy Bhattacharjya told Cricbuzz

Bhattacharjya backed his statement by pointing out how out of form the Indian captain has been in the ongoing 2024 IPL. He stated that openers like Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal are in better form, but wouldn’t open due to Sharma being the captain. He also stated that Jasprit Bumrah would be a better option as India captain.
