In his first Test against the country of origin, Kevin Pietersen struck a chanceless century to put England in the driving seat, adding an unbeaten 192 with Ian Bell for the fourth wicket, following an opening stand of 114 by Alastair Cook and Andrew Strauss. The fourth-wicket stand in the opening Test at Lord's became the highest partnership since coach Peter Moores took command, overhauling Bell and Matt Prior's 190 against West Indies at Lord's last year. Kevin Pietersen has been quiet in the build-up to the series, but he wasted little time to make the strongest of statements.
