It has not been a year to remember for the Wisconsin Badgers. After firing head coach Paul Chryst e arly in the season, the Badgers have entered freefall mode. The bad news does not stop with the losses. The Badgers are starting to lose players. The Wisconsin Badgers lose another WR to the transfer portal.

Wisconsin Badgers Lose WR To Transfer Portal

WR Markus Allen has eneterd the transfer portal. The red shirt freshman announced on Sunday evening his intentions to move on from the Wisconsin program. In a statement on Twitter he thanked the Wisconsin football program for giving him an opportunity. The former four star recruit out of Ohio has three years of eligibility left and is sure to garner some attention in the transfer portal. For Wisconsin this season, Allen has 7 catches for 91 yards and a touchdown. This is probably the first of many to move on from the program.

Just The Beginning Of The Exodus

Players come to programs because of the coach. Coaches are so integral in the recruiting trail that players often come to a program because of a certain coach. If that coach leaves, so do a lot of the players. It makes sense. Maybe the next coach installs a scheme that does not fit the players that are already there. This stunts the growth and opportunities of players so many choose to take their remaining eligibility and move on. It is never fun to hear about players leaving a program but this is a normal thing to happen in the midst of a coaching change.

Wisconsin needs to get the next head coaching hire correct. The best way to stabilize a program is to get a coach that can bring in new blood while also convincing the existing talent to get on board with the new regime. The problem with midseason firing is the Badgers have to get through the season before a new coach will be hired. How many other players will enter the transfer portal this year? It will be something to watch as the Badgers continue through the 2022 season.
