We already know what the best QB rivalry in college football will be in 2030 and it could involve Lane Kiffin and Tennessee
Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

The 2030 college football season might seem like it's still a long way away, but that's only six years from now.

To put that into context, six years ago at this time, Tennessee Vols fans were anxiously awaiting the start of the Jeremy Pruitt era.

In other words, it'll be here before you know it.

We don't quite know what the sport will look like in 2030 -- specifically when it comes to the transfer portal, NIL deals, the NCAA's influence on the sport, and whether or not players are employees -- but one thing we do know (I think we know at least) is what the best quarterback rivalry in the sport will be.

And it could involve Lane Kiffin and the Volunteers.

Kiffin's son, Knox, is already receiving hype as a 2028 quarterback recruit. Knox isn't in high school yet, but he's already impressing with his arm strength, touch, and football intelligence.

"Usually, as the offensive coordinator, I have to kind of coach the kids on where to throw the ball," said Cam Floyd, a 7-on-7 coach, this week (via Inside the Rebels). "Today, I showed him (Knox) the play and he dissected it himself. You don't get that a lot in 14 years old. He's wise beyond his years. You can tell his dad is a coach."

"Impeccable touch. Sometimes it's hard to have that big arm, but can you throw the little short routes? We had a couple of routes today where I was very impressed to see the touch on the ball and where he threw it," added Floyd.

Knox received an offer this week from Division II Mississippi College. It's Knox's first college offer.

A year behind Knox in the 2029 class is another young quarterback who is already receiving plenty of hype -- Marshall Manning, the son of Vols legend Peyton Manning

These two young quarterbacks with famous last names are the future of college football. And there's a really good chance they're facing off against each other in the SEC in the not-so-distant future.

Marshall landing at Tennessee while Knox plays for his dad at Ole Miss (Kiffin seems settled in with the Rebels) would give us the biggest quarterback rivalry in the sport in 2030 (when Marshall is a sophomore and Knox is a junior).

There's no guarantee that Marshall will choose to go to Tennessee. And maybe Knox goes somewhere other than Ole Miss. It's far too early to know how those recruitments will play out. But I think everyone who follows the sport closely would love to see Tennessee quarterback Marshall Manning vs Ole Miss quarterback Knox Kiffin become the best rivalry in the sport in a few years. It can't get much more compelling than a Manning vs Kiffin showdown.
