USC Football: Trojans Land Star QB in Transfer Portal
USA TODAY Sports

The USC Trojans have their new quarterback! Former Kansas State Wildcats signal-caller Will Howard has transferred to USC and will take over their starting spot.

Howard visited the campus recently, and he has been thought of as the replacement for former Trojans quarterback Caleb Williams. He brings a lot of experience to USC with him, having played four years with Kansas State.

This past season, Howard threw for 2,643 yards with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over 12 games. He completed 61.3 percent of his passes this season and could thrive under the offensive structure that USC has in place.

USC head coach Lincoln Riley has a proven track record of working with quarterbacks, and now it’s Howard’s turn. He will be slightly different than what Riley has typically worked with, but that could be a good thing.

Howard brings a different dimension to this USC offense since he has a strong running ability. He rushed 81 times this past season with the Wildcats, posting 351 yards and nine touchdowns.

He has typically worked in more run-centric offenses, but Riley must have a plan in place to maximize what they both do best. Having a player like Howard will keep the defenses on their toes at all times, giving the Trojans even more to work with.

With the Trojans entering the Big Ten Conference, they likely want to switch some things up. The offensive attack wasn’t as lethal this past season as it was in Riley’s first year, in part due to the offensive line issues.

However, the Trojans understand that they need to change and adapt to continue building toward their ultimate goals. Landing Howard is just the beginning, and this is the start to what is hopefully a successful offseason for USC.
