Penn State Football just finished Spring Practice and now the staff will begin the process of perfecting the roster for the 2024 season.

With the transfer portal open, Penn State has started to evaluate possible options to bring to Happy Valley for the upcoming season.

Elijah Herring has Penn State Football on His Radar

One player in the portal the staff is showing interest in, is Tennessee linebacker transfer Elijah Herring.

According to Steve Wiltfong of On3, Herring will visit Colorado this weekend, but he is also hearing from the Nittany Lions.

“Penn State said we’re trying to get something setup and stay in contact for the next couple of days and get something setup,” Herring told Wiltfong.

Herring, who played middle linebacker for the Vols, racked up 80 tackles this past season. A member of the 2022 recruiting class, Herring will have two years of eligibility remaining at his next stop.

What Herring Would Bring Nittany Lions

It would not hurt for Penn State Football to build some linebacker depth with Abdul Carter moving from linebacker to defensive end for the 2024 season.

New defensive coordinator Tom Allen primarily runs a two-linebacker set, and the expected starters are Kobe King and Tony Rojas, but there are question marks behind them.

King was a solid starter at the middle linebacker position for the Nittany Lions last season, but the depth behind him at the position is not ideal.

If Herring leaves his visit in Colorado without committing, Penn State might have a chance to reel him in with a visit to Happy Valley in the coming days.
