The launch of Madden 23 was today and with that brings the excitement of finding out where players are rated. The release of Madden is extra special this year, with the late John Madden being honored on this year’s cover art. Here are the top five LSU Tigers rated in Madden 23.

Tyrann Mathieu, 94 Overall

Mathieu is defined as one of the most electric playmakers to step on LSU’s campus. The star safety owns a school record of 11 forced fumbles. In his career with the Tigers, Mathieu racked up 133 tackles with 93 of those being solo tackles. He added 16 tackles and six sacks.

The New Orleans, Louisiana native stepped on the scene in Baton Rouge in his freshman season. In 2010, he ranked first in the SEC and fifth nationally with five forced fumbles. He also was tied for first in the SEC with three fumble recoveries. Mathieu would lead the team with seven pass breakups and fourth on the team in tackles with 57.

He would receive All-American honors in his sophomore year in 2011 and was a recipient for the Bednarik Award. Mathieu would lead the SEC in forced fumbles with six and fumble recoveries with five. The New Orleans native would go on to win 2011 SEC Defensive Player of the Year and be selected as one of the Heisman finalists.

Mathieu showed his capabilities as an explosive punt returner as he had a 15.6 per return average (27 returns for 421 yards) with two touchdowns.

Justin Jefferson, 93 Overall

Jefferson proved to be one of the best wide receivers to come through the doors of the LSU program. In three years at LSU, he would catch 165 passes for 2,145 yards and 24 TD’s. He would finish No. 5 in receptions in the history of LSU football with 165.

The St. Rose, Louisiana native did not see action in his freshman career in 2017, but bursted onto the scene during the 2018 season. Jefferson would emerge as the Tigers’ leading receiver in his sophomore season. He would lead the purple and gold in receptions (54), yards (875) and TD’s (6).

Jefferson would have a breakout year in 2019 as the LSU offense ranked as one of the top offenses in the country. He would receive honors of being named to the Second-Team All-SEC. The St. Rose native finished the 2019 season with a school-record 111 receptions for 1,540 yards and 18 TD’s.

He would go on in the 2019 season to lead the SEC in receptions and ranked No. 2 in yards (1,540), TD’s (18) and yards per game (102.7).

Tre’Davious White, 93 Overall

White cemented himself as one of the top cornerbacks in LSU history. He would be awarded with his leadership and playmaking ability by wearing the No. 18 jersey in his last two seasons. During his career, he registered 167 tackles, 11.0 tackles for loss, 34 pass breakups and six interceptions.

The Shreveport, Louisiana native earned Freshman All-SEC honors and was a third-team Freshman All-American in 2013. He would rack up 55 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions in his freshman season.

White would add on punt returning duties heading into the 2014 season as he would be the lead punt returner for the Tigers. In his sophomore season, he would finish with 33 tackles, six pass breakups and a pair of interceptions. LSU’s defense would rank No. 1 in total defense and White was a huge part of that.

He would continue to serve as the leading punt return in 2015 and remain as one of the best cornerbacks in the nation. White would receive honors to the Second-Team All-SEC and would go on to lead the team in pass breakups (7). The Shreveport native would finish the 2015 season with 44 total tackles, including 30 solo and 1.5 tackles for loss. He would also return 20 punts for 229 yards.

White would have a stellar senior season in 2016 where he earned first-team All-American honors. He would also be on the first team All-SEC. The Shreveport native would finish his senior season with 35 tackles, 4.0 tackles for loss and a half-sack. White was one of the the most difficult corners to pass against during the 2016 season.

Jamal Adams, 90 Overall

Adams would assert himself as one of the best defensive backs in the country during his career at LSU. In three years with the Tigers, he would be apart of two units that ranked in the top 10 in total defense.

In his freshman year in 2014, Adams would receive honors as a Freshman All-American and a member of All-SEC Freshman team. The Lewisville, Texas native broke out on the scene in his freshman season with 66 tackles, 5.0 tackles for loss and a sack.

Adams would continue to be part of a dominant Tiger defense in 2015 where he finished third on the team with 67 tackles, including 47 solo. He would add 5.0 tackles for loss, six pass breakups and four interceptions. In 2015, Adams would earn honors on the second-team All-SEC.

The Lewisville native would earn First-Team All-American honors during the 2016 season. He recorded 76 tackles and 7.5 tackles for loss. Adams would be the leader of an LSU defense that ranked No. 2 in the SEC in scoring defense (15.8) and rushing defense (117.2).

Joe Burrow, 90 Overall

The Ohio State transfer would become one of the most decorated players in college football with his performance during the 2019 season. Burrow capped his career with the Tigers by completing 621-of-906 passes for 8,565 yards, 76 TD’s and 11 interceptions.

The Athens, Ohio native would be the starting quarterback heading into the 2018 season. During that season, Burrow would compile a 10-3 record as the starter. He would become the first player in LSU history to throw for 2,500 yards and rush for at least 350 yards in a season. Burrow would finish the 2018 season completing 219-of-379 passes for 2,894 yards and 16 touchdowns. The 2018 season was only a stepping stone for what he was going to unleash in the following season.

The 2019 season was a magical year for Joe Burrow and the LSU offense. Burrow would go on to break nearly every school record in LSU history. He would lead the Tigers to a 15-0 and National Championship season. The Athens native became the only player in SEC history to throw for 5,000 yards and 50 TD’s in a season.

Burrow set multiple NCAA records, including TD passes (60) and total touchdowns (65). He would finish the 2019 season completing 402-of-527 passes for 5,671 yards and 60 TD’s. The Athens native continued to break record as he broke the SEC-single game mark for TD’s responsible. He would pass for eight touchdowns against Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff Semifinals.

Burrow would go on to win the Heisman Trophy unanimously, the Maxwell Award, the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Manning Award, the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and was named AP National Player of the Year. He would also receive honors as the SEC Offensive Player of the Year and be named as a first-team All-SEC selection.
