'Top-100': Where Does Aggies' Stewart Rank Among Best CFB Players?

One of the lone bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season for the Texas A&M Aggies was the emergence of then-true freshmen receiver Evan Stewart last season. Despite an Aggies offense that had become stale and inconsistent, Stewart shined as the leading receiver. 

The now-sophomore sensation will enter the upcoming season with heightened expectations after his first year in College Station, which may sound weird considering the Frisco, Texas, native was a five-star prospect coming out of Liberty High School. According to his 247Sports profile, Stewart was rated the No. 1 receiver, No. 2 player from the Lone Star state, and No. 6 overall in the 2022 class.

Yet, Stewart is being viewed as one of the top 100 players in the nation, with a recent article from 247Sports ranking him at No. 35. 

"After an impressive freshman campaign, the former top-10 recruit looks to put it all together in 2023," 247Sports writes. "Exceptional athlete with a ridiculous ceiling."

Stewart's ranking puts him just three spots behind junior Texas receiver Xavier Worthy. Still, it puts him ahead of players like Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy, Texas tight end Ja'Tavion Sanders, and Notre Dame signal-caller Sam Hartman. 

It is hard to argue with Stewart's high ranking, as he did manage to total 649 yards and two touchdowns on 53 receptions. ... And while the Aggies still have some uncertainty about who will be their starting quarterback, they can take comfort in knowing whoever starts will have talented playmakers around them with Stewart, Ainias Smith, and Moose Muhammad III all returning.
