The story of one of college football's greatest legends will continue in 2024

College football has seen many great players come and go over the years, but no one's story may be more unique than Cam McCormick's and his story is not finished quite yet.

The 25-year-old tight end announced on social media that he is indeed returning to play for the Miami Hurricanes in 2024. It will be McCormick's ninth season of college football.

McCormick began his collegiate career with Oregon in 2016 when he had six catches for 89 yards and a touchdown. He would go on to play in four seasons for the Ducks before transferring to Miami in 2023.

However, he missed the majority of four different seasons due to injury along with his redshirt year and the COVID year of 2020. The NCAA has since approved his petition for an unprecedented ninth season.

"I'm blessed that it was me to go through it because a lot of people would have folded under the pressure -- both mentally and physically," McCormick told ESPN. "But it's pushed me to be a better person and teammate -- everything. I've learned so much from every year and everything I've had to overcome."

McCormick's best season came in 2022 when he was able to play for a full season. He posted a career-high 10 catches and three touchdowns. McCormick was awarded the Capital One Orange Bowl FWAA Courage Award as a result.

He was originally a part of the 2016 signing class that included Chargers QB Justin Herbert, 49ers DE Nick Bosa and Eagles QB Jalen Hurts, all of whom have been in the NFL for four or five years already.

McCormick says his goal is to still play in the NFL and that he's just giving himself the "best opportunity and best shot."

Maybe the ninth time will be a charm for McCormick, who will go down in college football history, nonetheless.
