Texas Longhorns OL Jake Majors To Miss 'Extended Time' With Ankle Injury

Texas football still can punch its ticket to the Big 12 Championship if it wins out, but the offense will be short-handed at a premium position for potentially the remainder of the season.

Offensive lineman Jake Majors suffered a high-ankle sprain in the 34-30 loss to No. 5 Oklahoma in the Red River Showdown last week and is expected to miss extended time for the remainder of the year.

Majors is expected to miss anywhere between six-to-eight weeks, meaning the junior could miss the Longhorns' season finale against Texas Tech at Royal-Memorial Stadium. Should the injury linger, expect Majors to potentially miss the Big 12 title game should No. 9 Texas (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) win out the remainder of its schedule.

Following Thursday's 41-39 loss to Houston, West Virginia would need to win out and hope for a Texas loss to the Cougars to split the tiebreaker. The Mountaineers (4-2, 2-1 Big 12) face Oklahoma on Nov. 11 at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman.

Majors, who's started 31 games since 2021, left during the first quarter with a lower-body injury and did not return. With backup center Cole Hutson already out due to injury, the Longhorns turned to redshirt freshman Connor Robertson to handle snap duties.

Hutson, who suffered a knee injury in Week 3's win over Wyoming, is expected to return following the Longhorns' bye week. Sophomore DJ Campbell has filled in exceptionally well for Hutson at left guard and should retain the position should Huston move inside as Majors' replacement.

Majors was on pace for a career season with Texas prior to the injury. According to Pro Football Focus, he posted a 79.5 pass-blocking grade and had only allowed four pressures through 350 snaps.

The Longhorns hit the road next Saturday to take on Houston at TDECU Stadium at 3 p.m. The game will be televised on FOX.
