Tennessee Vols defensive back Doneiko Slaughter officially announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal via a heartfelt message on Sunday.

"Expressing my gratitude for the tremendous support, development, and love l've experienced during my time at the University of Tennessee," read a message that Slaughter posted to Instagram. "The relationships I've built with my brothers and staff have been invaluable, contributing significantly to my growth as both an athlete and an individual. The support from Volnation has made this university feel like a home. However, after careful consideration, I have decided to enter my name into the transfer portal. This decision is about my personal growth and aspirations and in no way diminishes the gratitude and love I feel for the University of Tennessee. I am sincerely thankful for the opportunities and memories here."

Slaughter, a former three-star recruit, signed with Tennessee during the 2020 recruiting cycle.

The Georgia native totaled 66 tackles, three sacks, and one interception during his time with the Vols.

One of Slaughter's most memorable plays at Tennessee came during the Vols' 44-6 win against Kentucky in 2022. Slaughter delivered a hit on Wildcats wide receiver Barion Brown, which jarred the ball loose and allowed UT linebacker Juwan Mitchell to come down with the interception.

Additionally, Slaughter, who also had his only career interception in that win against Kentucky, was the inspiration for one of the best shirts that Joe Milton wore during his time at Tennessee.
