Shedeur Sanders had more to celebrate on National Signing Day

The Colorado Buffaloes secured one of the best combined recruiting classes since the evolution of the transfer portal on Wednesday. 

Coach Prime and his staff went out and upgraded the offensive line to replace a unit that gave up a record 56 sacks last season. But that wasn't the only reason Shedeur Sanders was elated for a "Legendary Day." CU's "Grown" quarterback celebrated his 22nd birthday around his teammates. 

Sanders enjoyed the day in and out of conditioning drills, and even got a special gift from CU athletic trainer Lauren Askevold. He has always been very mature and his leadership is shining through this offseason.    

“His nickname in my phone, as most of you know is Grown,” Coach Prime said. “He's very mature for his age. He's very confident and he doesn’t flinch. He never gets flustered. He's the most-sacked quarterback in college football and you couldn't tell with how he carries himself.”

Those were the words echoed far too often this past season. Shedeur rode quite a rollercoaster after his turning 21. It started on the highest mountain right outside his hometown in Fort Worth, Texas throwing for a record 510 yards and four touchdowns in his FBS debut to upset TCU. Add two more wins for a blazing start with all eyes on Sanders and the Buffs. From that point on, it was an absolute grind. He was battered and beaten but he always stood tall. 

What might this year have in store for Sanders? For starters, a better looking team with an upgraded offense ready to compete with a former NFL coach calling the plays for the projected top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. To paraphrase Terrell Owens, “that’s OUR quarterback,” and he’s nothing short of legendary.
