Report: Georgia stars Brock Bowers, Amarius Mims to sit out Pro Day, both will work out April 10

Georgia stars Brock Bowers and Amarius Mims will not participate in the Bulldogs’ Pro-Day Wednesday due to injuries, according to ESPN’s Jordan Reid.

“Sources: Georgia TE Brock Bowers (hamstring) and OT Amarius Mims (hamstring) will not participate in Pro Day today, but both will have a separate workout for NFL teams on April 10th, source confirmed,” Reid wrote on Twitter.

Both Bowers and Mims are expected to be first round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft.

Bowers is projected to be one of, if not the best tight end prospect in recent memory. However, that hasn’t stopped ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. from calling Bowers “unpredictable.”

“He’s not a wide receiver, he’s not a tight end. He’s a do-it-all guy. He can be a fullback, H-back,” Kiper said. “Look at the hands. Look at the ability to get the ball and then, after the catch, be dynamic. He’s outracing cornerbacks to paydirt.

“He is a fear-factor player. Every defensive coordinator that they were facing, Georgia was facing had to identify, had to figure out a way to contain and they never could do it.”

Some team is going to take Bowers and will likely be very pleased with what they’re getting in him. The questions now are which one and how far does he potentially fall in order for them to get him?

“He’s the seventh-highest rated player on my board – seventh, eighth highest-rated player,” Kiper. “Does he deserve to be in the Top-10? Yes he does. If he doesn’t go until that 10 to 15 area, it’s because of the fact that team’s don’t know how to identify him.”

Mims, at 6-foot-7 3/4 and 340 pounds, clocked an impressive unofficial time of 5.07 during the 40-yard dash at the NFL scouting combine. His freakish build was on display with 11 1/4″ hands, 36 and 1/8″ arms and an 86 and 3/4″ wingspan. He posted a 25 1/2″ vertical jump and a 9’3″ broad jump.

However, that’s where he suffered his hamstring injury. Mims is a potential first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. He is viewed as one of the best offensive tackle prospects along with Notre Dame’s Joe Alt, Penn State’s Olu Fashanu, Oregon State’s Taliese Fauga, Alabama’s JC Latham and Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton.
