QB JT Daniels transfers from Georgia to West Virginia

Former Georgia and USC quarterback JT Daniels left the transfer portal, deciding this week that he will play at West Virginia next season.

"Going up and down the roster, I feel like they have very, very good pieces everywhere," Daniels said in a phone interview with ESPN. "It feels like a great fit for quarterback. I feel like there's a really, really, really good team that I'm going to step into and do my part to contribute."

Daniels was one of the highest-profile players in the portal as college programs' spring practices and games get underway. He impressed at Georgia following his early stint at USC, going 7-0 in two seasons with the Bulldogs and ending his 2021 season with seven touchdowns.

The Orange County, Calif. native was one of the most promising football prospects when he started his collegiate career at USC, but injuries played a key role in his diminished play and subsequent departure to Georgia. Despite leaving Southern California on a less-than-stellar note, Daniels' decision to go to West Virginia was influenced by former USC offensive coordinator Graham Harrell being WV's new OC and quarterbacks coach.

"It definitely helped knowing Graham coming into it and having a really good relationship with him," Daniels said. "Knowing that I trust that offense and that system, and I believe in it. I also feel really comfortable with [head coach Neal] Brown and the ideas that he has and the way that he runs a program."

Daniels told ESPN he called Brown on Wednesday morning about his decision to play at West Virginia.
