Orchestrator of Iowa's inept offense, Brian Ferentz, will not return in 2024

Even the casual observer of college football has an idea that Iowa football has an offense problem.

No, the Hawkeyes have never been known as an offensive juggernaut (they have been known for elite defense and special teams, though), but these past two seasons have been abysmal.

Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz has justifiably received a ton of heat for his unit's production over the past two seasons, but Iowa's head coach, Kirk Ferentz (his father) has seemed unwilling to make any changes or adjustments. 

The elder Ferentz has been head coach at Iowa since 1999, so he's undoubtedly an icon. His seeming inability to properly evaluate his son has led to criticisms of nepotism, and for good reason.

According to a new report, though, changes may be finally coming for the Hawkeyes.

Per 247Sports, Brian Ferentz is not expected to return next season, though he will remain as offensive coordinator for the rest of 2023 — likely so that Iowa can maintain some sense of consistency on the recruiting trail.

Iowa confirmed the report with a press release.
