Ole Miss has a chance to make opposing offenses' lives hell next season

Ole Miss is one of the most recognized brands in college football. Recruits will come from all over the country to play for Lane Kiffin.

And it extends to the transfer portal.

For the past three years, Ole Miss has finished inside the top-10 when it comes to On3's transfer portal team rankings, even claiming the number one spot in 2022.

In the first cycle this year they struck big in a couple of areas.

They landed former five-star Walter Nolen from Texas A&M, as well as landing Florida edge rusher Princely Unammielen.

The spring transfer portal just opened up, and with it, came a flurry of new names.

Yesterday, a big name would enter.

TCU, interior defensive lineman Damonic Williams would enter and his fit with the Rebels makes a lot of sense.

Here is why.

Williams is a one-technique, coming in at 6'2 320, his primary job is to clog up lanes, hold the point of attack, and let linebackers flow to the ball.

It is something he is quite good at. He was so good, he would bring home the following awards in his past two seasons of play:
2023 Honorable-Mention All-Big 12
2023 Honorable-Mention Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year
2022 Honorable-Mention Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year
2022 True Freshman All-American

Getting him next to an interior pass rusher like Walter Nolen would do wonders for the Ole Miss front seven.

Last year Ole Miss as a team averaged 4.53 yards on average depth of tackles. That would be good for 60th in the FBS.

Damonic Williams's average depth of tackle himself would be 3.42 yards.

Now a yard difference might not sound like a lot, but in reality, it's a very big difference.

Think of how many times have converted on 4th and short to keep their drive alive, and go on to lead comebacks.

Another reason that Williams could be a Rebel is a recent staff change for Ole Miss.

Ole Miss recently brought on Alex Brown of SMU to be their Director of Player Personnel. Coming from SMU, Brown saw firsthand how impactful Williams would be on the field for the past two years.

Getting Williams on the Rebel defense would give them an elite pass rusher at 3 technique, and an elite run stuffer at one technique; that's all before you get to their edge room.

They would create nightmares for opposing QBs and offensive coordinators alike.
