NFL Hall of Famer Ed Reed will be the next head football coach at Bethune-Cookman

Ed Reed was once one of the best safeties in the NFL. He had a Hall of Fame career that featured nine Pro Bowls, a Defensive Player of the Year award, five All-Pro selections, and a Super Bowl win with the Baltimore Ravens in 2013.

Reed retired in 2015 and has since been trying his hand at the coaching and administrative side of the game. He was an assistant defensive backs coach with the Buffalo Bills in 2016 and was part of the football support staff at his alma mater, Miami, since 2020.

He's now going to be the head coach for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Located in Daytona Beach, Florida, Bethune-Cookman is a notable HBCU program that had won eight MEAC championships since 1971 before joining the SWAC in 2021.

The Wildcats' former coach, Terry Sims, was fired in November after two 2-9 seasons in a row. He had been at Bethune-Cookman since 2015 and had a 38-39 overall record, but was only 4-12 in SWAC play.

Deion Sanders, an NFL Hall of Famer in his own right, recently put Jackson State and the SWAC on the map before taking a Power Five job at Colorado. It will be interesting to see if Reid can follow in "coach Prime's" footsteps.
