Netflix teases Johnny Manziel documentary in wake of Manti Te'o feature

Former Notre Dame Fighting Irish and NFL linebacker Manti Te'o has been back in sports headlines this summer thanks to the release of the Netflix documentary entitled "Untold: The Girlfriend Who Didn't Exist," which chronicles the story of how he became the victim of a catfishing scheme

It appears that feature was only the beginning for Netflix.

As noted by Bleacher Report's Mike Chiari and Mark Heim of AL.com, Netflix tweeted out a 10-second clip ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend that appears to show none other than Manziel sitting in a chair directly before an interview that presumably was filmed for an upcoming documentary:

The college football superstar formerly known as "Johnny Football" became the first freshman to win the Heisman Trophy during the 2012 season with the Texas A&M Aggies, but he quickly earned a reputation for partying with celebrities and others off the field when he wasn't torching defenses:

The Cleveland Browns nevertheless made Manziel a first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and that experiment largely went poorly for all involved. Manziel underwhelmed on the field, completed a stay in a treatment facility in 2015, and was released after just his second season.

He never signed with any other NFL team and declared earlier this year as a member of the Fan Controlled Football league that his formal pro playing career "in my eyes is over." Manziel has also explained in previous interviews that he suffers from bipolar disorder and dealt with mental health struggles throughout his time at Texas A&M and in Cleveland.

The fact that this piece just scratched the surface regarding the rise and fall of "Johnny Football" says plenty about why viewers likely would rush to watch a Netflix documentary about one of college football's most unforgettable talents who became one of the NFL's biggest busts.
