Over the weekend, the Michigan football offense had a magnificent performance en route to a 49-0 victory over the Wolverines’ in-state rival: the Michigan State Spartans. After the game, despite being embarrassed like never before in his own stadium, MSU linebacker Aaron Brule managed to seemingly throw shade at Colston Loveland, JJ McCarthy, and others.
Colston Loveland and AJ Barner — both tight ends for Michigan’s incredible offense this year — had impressive games against Michigan State over the weekend. Loveland, a sophomore, posted four catches for 79 yards and two touchdowns, while Barner, a transfer senior, hauled in eight passes for 99 yards and one touchdown.
Still, that was apparently not enough to impress MSU linebacker Aaron Brule.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say that they (Michigan’s tight ends) are hard to cover,” Brule said after his team’s 49-0 loss. “We just gotta have good eyes in zone coverage and things that we were playing and make plays when plays come to us. (They are) nothing much special — they just make solid plays schematically, and they were able to make plays when they were put in position.”
If that was not enough, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy — who currently is No. 1 in the 2023 Heisman Trophy odds — also caught some shade after Michigan’s win over the Michigan State Spartans.
“I think it’s (Michigan’s) scheme,” Brule said when asked what makes JJ McCarthy so hard to defend against. “It’s not necessarily him just doing all the work. I think those guys are put in great position to do what they do and they capitalize on all opportunities.”
Once you understand that it’s psychologically impossible for anyone with MSU to say nice things about Michigan, videos like this make sense. pic.twitter.com/ri3fJlFFla
