Most impactful 2024 transfer portal additions

As Michigan wrapped up its first national title since 1997, arch-rival Ohio State had something to celebrate, too.

Former Ole Miss running back Quinshon Judkins, one of the top players in the transfer portal, committed to the Buckeyes Monday evening, a massive addition for head coach Ryan Day.

Ohio State running back TreVeyon Henderson, one of 2024's top NFL running back prospects, has yet to make a draft decision, but Judkins' addition means the Buckeyes will be fine regardless.

In two seasons with the Rebels (2022-23), Judkins had 582 touches, 3,006 yards from scrimmage and 34 total touchdowns. He isn't the year's only impact transfer portal addition. With the season officially over, here's an early look at nine other transfer portal additions who will make an impact in 2024.

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne

The Bulldogs (17-4 odds) are the way-too-early favorite for next year's College Football Playoff national champion. Etienne's move from Florida to rival Georgia should help the program live up to expectations. The sophomore running back gained 5.7 yards per carry in 2023 and has 279 touches, 1,710 yards and 15 touchdowns in 24 career games.

Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel

The sixth-year senior gives Oregon a legitimate chance to challenge for a Big Ten title in its first season in the conference. Gabriel posted career highs in completion percentage (69.3 percent) and passing yards (3,660 yards) with Oklahoma in 2023. He's also eighth in career touchdowns (125) and needs 31 more to pass former Houston quarterback Case Keenum for the most all-time.

Ohio State quarterback Will Howard

After conquering the Big 12 with Kansas State, Howard has his eyes on returning Ohio State to prominence in the Big Ten. He led the Wildcats to the 2022 Big 12 championship and knows what's at stake in Columbus — first and foremost beating Michigan. "The pressure is on. Beating that Team Up North is priority No. 1 on the way to the national championship and all our other goals," said Howard.

Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard

For the second consecutive year, the Irish landed one of the top quarterbacks in the portal. Leonard played at Duke for the past three seasons, having his best year in 2022. Injuries, including one suffered against Notre Dame, limited him to seven games this past season, but he had 33 touchdowns and 3,666 total yards a season ago.

Texas edge-rusher Trey Moore

Moore arrives in Austin after spending the past three seasons in San Antonia at UTSA. The Roadrunners moved from Conference USA to the American in 2023, and Moore made that move look seamless, finishing 2023 with 14 sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss, one interception, one forced fumble and recovery.

Boise State quarterback Malachi Nelson

One of the top QB prospects in the 2023 class, Nelson surprisingly left USC for Boise State, where he's expected to immediately compete for the starting role. He appeared in only one game in 2023 while backing up Caleb Williams, finishing 1-of-3 for no yards.

Ole Miss defensive lineman Walter Nolen

Nolen was a five-star prospect in Texas A&M's 2022 class and is one of several impressive transfer portal additions by the Rebels. In 22 career games, Nolen has 66 tackles (11 for loss) and five sacks.

Texas A&M edge-rusher Nic Scourton

While the Aggies had another exodus out of College Station, the portal hasn't been as terrible to A&M this season thanks to what it's getting from Scourton. At Purdue in 2023, his sophomore year, Scourton had 10 sacks and 15 tackles for loss.

Ole Miss edge-rusher Princely Umanmielen

Another highly touted addition by Ole Miss, Umanmielen has 14.5 career sacks in four seasons at Florida. The fifth-year senior joins a talented Rebels team that could make a lot of noise in 2024.
