Michigan football star Blake Corum could break Mike Hart’s record tomorrow

Mike Hart is currently the Wolverines’ running backs coach, a role that he has been thriving in over the past few years. Hart, as many fans will recall, is also one of the best backs in program history, leading the program in rushing yards and more. Tomorrow, Michigan football star Blake Corum — who has 40 touchdowns in his Michigan career — could break Hart’s career record of 41 touchdowns and move up on the team’s all-time leaderboard once again.

Blake Corum leads the country in rushing touchdowns right now, boasting nine scores through five games heading into tomorrow’s road contest against the Minnesota Golden Gophers. Earlier this week, Mike Hart, Corum’s RB coach and the proud owner of 41 rushing touchdowns during his Michigan football career, joked that Corum is not getting the ball near the end zone anymore.

“No more touchdowns for Blake,” Mike Hart said. “No more — it’ll be Kalel (Mullings).”

In all seriousness, though, Mike Hart is rooting for Blake Corum to break all of his records — if Corum can catch Hart this year, that is a lot of offensive production for just 7-10 more games this season.

“Excited for him,” Mike Hart said. “As long as he doesn’t catch my yardage record, I’m okay. Actually, I wish he would catch it. That’d be awesome — that’s a lot of yards. It doesn’t bother me. It’s something that he’s worked for. And hopefully, we’ll get him as high as we can on that record chart before he’s out of here.

“He’s close,” Hart said. “He’s one away (from tying Hart at 41). So he’d better get it this week. He’d better pass it this week, to be honest with you.”

Corum could move up on all-time Michigan football leaderboard

Blake Corum is averaging more than a touchdown per game despite his slower start to the season, coming off of injury. Against Minnesota tomorrow, with Corum and the offensive line seemingly back on the same page, the Michigan football star has a chance to make a bit of history and pass Mike Hart in all-time rushing touchdowns, getting one step closer to the top of the leaderboard in program history.
