Mike Hart, the Michigan football legend and running backs coach for the past three seasons, won’t be returning to the Wolverines next season according to multiple reports.

Michigan football RB coach Mike Hart won’t return

We knew that Hart was on leave from Michigan football but it was confirmed on Friday that he won’t return next season due to personal reasons.

Whatever the reason, Michigan football fans should wish Hart the best in the future. He was an exceptional player for U-M and certainly had a role in building the championship culture that was so vital to the Wolverines’ success over the past three seasons.

Michigan football only lost three games with Hart as an assistant coach and only one in the regular season, a game they led by 16 I might add. That’s how good the Wolverines were from 2021-23 and Hart had a huge role in that.

Yet, what’s done is done. Hart isn’t part of the coaching staff anymore. It’s a blow. He was a solid recruiter and even better at developing talent. But the good news for Michigan football is that there is a no-brainer available to promote as his replacement: Denard Robinson.

Shoelace would be a perfect fit

Shoelace played quarterback for the Wolverines but played running back in the NFL. He knows a thing or two about carrying the rock. He’s also been an asset on the recruiting trail in the personnel department and would be a smart hire for all of the above.

Assistant coaches with NFL backgrounds are always a plus in college. Robinson checks that box. He’s also a Michigan football legend. He’s spent the past five seasons in an off-field role for the Jaguars or Michigan and seems ready for the next step.

It just makes too much sense.
