Ahead of this weekend’s game at No. 10 Penn State, we had a chance to hear from Michigan football coach Mike Hart — a legend in the Maize and Blue and the Wolverines’ current running backs coach — ahead of the crucial matchup. One thing that Hart said this week that truly stood out was that he feels that senior running back Kalel Mullings, who has subtly turned into a star player and a key piece for Michigan’s offense, will return to Ann Arbor in 2024.

Michigan football coach Mike Hart feels that senior RB Kalel Mullings will return in 2024

Kalel Mullings first switched from linebacker to running back in 2022. While Mullings saw some meaningful reps last fall, he did not really emerge as a key player for Michigan football until this fall, when he earned the role of RB3 behind Blake Corum and Donovan Edwards, being denoted as the Wolverines’ “power back” along the way.

While Corum will not be returning in 2024, and Edwards may also elect to leave after this season, Mike Hart says he believes that Kalel Mullings will be sticking with Michigan football in 2024.

“I think it all depends on who leaves, who stays, but I see (Kalel Mullings) coming back and hopefully having another year,” Michigan football coach Mike Hart said on Wednesday. “(Mullings) is having a great year this year — he obviously got dinged up, but we can’t wait until he comes back. I think I’ve said — I truly believe in him. And I think he’s gonna be a really, really good running back.

“He is a good running back right now,” Mike Hart added.

Kalel Mullings has been on and off the injury report all season long, though may appear in tomorrow’s game against the Penn State Nittany Lions. Regardless, keep an eye on this senior running back, who may be sticking around in Ann Arbor for a fifth year in the Maize and Blue next fall.
