Tough injury luck continues to strike for LSU Tigers quarterback Myles Brennan, but after breaking his non-throwing (left) arm in a fishing accident recently, he’s on the road back to playing far sooner than initially expected.

Glenn Guilbeau reported for USA Today that Brennan, who was thought to be out for the entire 2021 season with a broken humerus bone, could return as soon as September 25’s Week 4 matchup against Mississippi State.

“They said they’re going to have Myles throwing in two weeks and take it day-to-day from there,” said Brennan’s father, Owen, of his son’s injury outlook and how LSU’s staff plans to bring him along. “They’re going to get him to physical therapy on Friday and start moving his left arm.”

Brennan was impressive in his limited action last season, throwing for 1,112 yards, 11 touchdowns and only three interceptions. Unfortunately, an abdominal injury knocked him out of action for the remainder of the year.

What was expected to be a hard-fought QB competition entering 2021 has proved to be rather anticlimactic. Any chance Brennan had to unseat Max Johnson as the starter fell by the wayside with his latest injury.

Johnson stepped in as a freshman last year and threw eight touchdown passes to only one pick. His most impressive performances came in his final two starts, as he won shootouts against Florida and Ole Miss, which had Tampa Bay Buccaneers second-round draft pick Kyle Trask and rising Rebels star Matt Corral at quarterback, respectively.

Because the play under center from Johnson was so solid, there’s reason for optimism in Baton Rouge. An underwhelming 5-5 record from this past season is likely to be a distant memory if Johnson can ride the momentum of his last couple of starts into asserting himself as a top-flight field general in the SEC.
