It was reported by WWL Radio’s Kristian Garic on Monday that quarterback Myles Brennan is stepping away from football. The sixth-year quarterback is deciding to hang up his cleats after he was informed over the weekend that he would not be the starting quarterback for LSU. Here is what Garic said on the air on Monday about Brennan’s decision:

“LSU football operations is expected to release a statement after practice today informing fans and media that quarterback Myles Brennan is stepping away from football after six years at LSU.”

Brennan was a highly-touted quarterback prospect from Long Beach, Mississippi where he played football for Saint Stanislaus. He was one of the best quarterbacks to ever come out of the state of Mississippi.

Brennan’s LSU career began in 2017 where he saw action in six games with the purple and gold. He would go to make his first appearance in the season opener against BYU in New Orleans. The former four-star quarterback would rack up 182 passing yards and a touchdown during his freshman campaign.

He would see less action in his sophomore year in 2018, because the Tigers decide to hit the transfer portal and landed Joe Burrow. Brennan would sit behind Burrow during the 2018 and 2019 season. In the 2018 season, he would only see action in one game. During the 2019 season, Brennan played in 10 games.

The Long Beach native posted 353 passing yards and one touchdown. His best overall game in 2019 came against Northwestern State, where he went eight-for-nine for 115 yards.

Brennan would be named the starter going into the 2020 season. He would appear in three games, before suffering an injury against Missouri. In those three games, he would rack up 1,115 yards and 11 TD’s. The Long Beach native would be sidelined for the rest of 2020, due to the injury he suffered.

The injuries would prolong into the offseason where Brennan suffered an off-the-field injury just days before the injury. He would end up missing out on the entire 2021 season. Brennan did enter his name into the transfer portal after the 2021 season, but ultimately decided to come back to LSU to compete for the starting role.

What Does Brennan’s Decision Mean For the LSU QB Competition?

The LSU starting quarterback race is down to two names: Jayden Daniels and Garrett Nussmeier . There should be hints for Tiger fans that Jayden Daniels is going to be the starter for the 2022 season for the Tigers. Brian Kelly went to the transfer portal to get Jayden Daniels from Arizona State for a reason. Daniels has taken QB1 reps, due to Nussmeier dealing with a minor ankle injury. Nussmeier has shown some flashes in practice, especially during the spring game. The LSU quarterback race will still charge in the next few weeks with it coming down to Daniels and Nussmeier.
