One of the best aspects of college football’s Rivalry Week is the great monikers given to the games. In the Pacific Northwest, the annual showdown between Oregon and Oregon State simply borrows from American history, going by the name “the Civil War.” As the two schools prepare to battle for the 126th time, we’re backing a newcomer to the rivalry for our top prop:
The bet: Over 271½ passing yards for Oregon quarterback Bo Nix (DraftKings)
A three-year starter at Auburn, Nix garnered rivalry experience by competing in the Iron Bowl. But an ankle injury caused him to miss last season’s grudge game against Alabama, and he’s currently dealing with a less severe version of a similar issue.
Typically posing a dual threat, Nix was decidedly a pocket passer in last week’s 20-17 victory over Utah. He threw for 287 yards but had just two rushing attempts for minus-3 yards. It was the fifth straight time that Nix has cleared this number, and he has thrown for more than 400 yards twice this season.
On the other side this afternoon is an Oregon State run defense that ranks in the top 20 nationally, limiting opponents to 111 yards per game. The Beavers have shown more vulnerability against the pass, and Oregon expects to have a full complement of receivers, as senior wideout Chase Cota has returned from injury.
With Nix at the trigger, look for the Ducks to continue to attack through the air.
