J.J. McCarthy believes in 'Michigan Man' Sherrone Moore

New Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore has a tall task ahead of him and some big shoes to fill. Jim Harbaugh, now head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers, walked away from Ann Arbor with a national championship.

Those expectations are now on Moore.

To make life tougher for the offensive coordinator-turned-head coach, his defensive coordinator from last season, Jesse Minter, followed Harbaugh to the NFL. And Moore is also going to be losing several top players to the NFL Draft, including J.J. McCarthy.

But the rising quarterback prospect doesn't seem too worried about Michigan moving forward.

Speaking at the NFL Scouting Combine, McCarthy said that he believes Moore has the right stuff to succeed at Michigan.

“Amazing,” McCarthy said when asked how he things Moore will do in his first season, per On3. “The most important quality of a head coach at the University of Michigan is being a Michigan man and he’s got that. He’s earned his stripes and the boys love him, they’re behind him, and with those two things they’re gonna be successful no matter what.”

McCarthy is right that Moore earned his stripes at Michigan. Just look at his resume from 2023.

He went 4-0 as an interim head coach last season while Harbaugh was suspended. That included a win over No. 10 Penn State in Happy Valley and a win over No. 2 Ohio State in "The Game."

Throw in the fact that he was offensive coordinator for Michigan's first championship win since 1997 and he's proven that he's ready to take the helm full-time.
