Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

Former UNLV Rebels quarterback Jayden Maiava has made a significant move by committing to join the Georgia Bulldogs via the transfer portal.

This transfer marks an exciting addition to the Bulldogs’ roster, as Maiava brings a wealth of potential and talent to the team. During his time with the UNLV Rebels, Maiava had a notable journey, including a redshirt season in 2022, where he earned recognition as the Mountain West Freshman of the Year.

Maiava’s impact on UNLV was profound, leading the team to the conference championship game and showcasing his skills by completing 62.9 percent of his passes for an impressive 3,085 yards and 17 touchdowns. His versatility extended beyond passing, as he also contributed by rushing for 277 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

In a heartfelt letter when he initially entered the transfer portal, Maiava expressed his gratitude and respect for UNLV, its football program, coaches, teammates, and fans. He emphasized that his decision to transfer was made with careful consideration, believing it to be a crucial step for his personal and athletic growth.

“I hope this letter finds you all in good health and high spirits. It is with mixed emotions that I am writing to inform you that I have decided to enter the transfer portal, marking the end of my journey with UNLV. This decision to enter the transfer portal was not made lightly. I believe it is the right step for my personal and athletic growth and I hope you understand and respect my choice. Thank you once again for everything. I am forever grateful for the support and encouragement. Wishing the UNLV football program, my coaches, teammates, and fans continued success in the future.”

Georgia, always on the lookout for talent, sees the addition of Jayden Maiava as a valuable asset, even with Carson Beck already on their roster. Maiava’s unique skills and depth will undoubtedly bolster the team’s quarterback position. It remains to be seen how Maiava will perform with the Bulldogs, particularly if he earns the opportunity to compete for the starting quarterback position.

Maiava’s football journey began in high school at Kaimuki, Hawaii, where he garnered recognition as a three-star prospect. In the 2022 recruiting cycle, he ranked as the No. 986 overall recruit according to the On3 Industry Ranking, which takes into account data from all four major recruiting media companies. This ranking reflects his potential and the anticipation surrounding his collegiate career at Georgia.
