Former Ohio State QB favored to land with Big Ten rival

Quarterback Kyle McCord may not have to travel very far after deciding to transfer from Ohio State.

Nebraska is viewed as the heavy favorite to land McCord from Ohio State, according to multiple reports. Evan Bredeson of Cornhuskers Wire wrote Saturday that Nebraska has already offered McCord a scholarship less than a week after the quarterback decided to leave the Buckeyes.

That was backed up by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, who reported on ESPN’s “College GameDay” Saturday that the Cornhuskers have emerged as the clear favorite to sign McCord.

“In the past 24 hours, Nebraska has surged ahead as the leader there. That’s where McCord could end up,” Thamel said, via Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun.

McCord would be a very nice get for Matt Rhule and Nebraska. A former five-star recruit, he was solid for the Buckeyes in 2023, throwing for 3,170 yards and 24 touchdowns in 12 games. He would almost certainly slot in as the team’s immediate starter.

McCord’s decision to leave Ohio State has confused at least one observer, but the Buckeyes’ loss might be Nebraska’s gain. Of course, there is plenty of reason to believe Ohio State will be just fine themselves.
