Former Colorado player claps back at Shedeur Sanders for disrespectful dig saying, 'The world knows why we lost'

Shedeur Sanders had quite a weekend in Las Vegas. The Colorado Buffaloes quarterback made the rounds in Las Vegas ahead of Super Bowl 58 and sat down with Cam Newton's 4th & 1 podcast.

One unique moment between an electrifying NFL signal-caller from the past and one of the future. Sanders was asked to reflect on last season, along with giving a preview to joining the Big 12 in 2024. He took a dig at his former teammates in the process by saying that there weren’t "enough dogs" on the roster.

“We only lost a lot of games last year because we have enough dogs on the team," Sanders said. "You understand, I’m not even a player to be talking crazy or anything like that. Now, when you got some guys on the team that can’t stick up for themselves, or you got guys on a team where that’s not in them, you’ve got to become that because they’re going to follow the leader. Not really caring, whatever it is, they’re gonna go do it.”

Sanders' comments didn't sit well with former Colorado running back Kavosiey Smoke, who let him know about it directly via social media. “C'mon fam don’t do your teammates like that gang," Smoke wrote. "We know why we lost and the world knows why we lost!!”

The former Kentucky standout was part of Coach Prime's initial transfer portal class last year. He came to Boulder for his final year of eligibility which was spent mostly on special teams. Smoke has gone on the record before about the environment at CU. He claimed the team would've been undefeated if they hadn't played "selfish ball" following the 56-14 blowout to Washington State.

Colorado's "Grown" QB wants better from his team and has become more vocal about the offensive needs this offseason. He became CU's single-season passing yards leader (3,230) and was two scores shy of breaking the touchdown mark as well. All of that despite sitting out the final six quarters of the season with a fractured back.

Sanders comes into his final year at CU ready for the NFL journey ahead of him. He's noted as the third-best QB in this year's NFL Draft class and is expected to be in the conversation as the top overall pick in 2025.
