Florida Atlantic was very happy when they landed quarterback Casey Thompson from last year’s portal. The former Texas and Nebraska quarterback was hoping to find success in his final year of eligibility. Unfortunately, he tore his ACL after three games. However, after being granted a medical hardship waiver by the NCAA, Thompson will enter the transfer portal for a seventh year of eligibility.

Thompson looked good in the three games he was with the Owls. He threw for 509 yards, five touchdowns, and five interceptions. He is ready to find his fourth college after being granted another year of eligibility. Many speculated whether he could go start for a year in Nebraska but a source told On3 that is not in the cards. More than likely, Thompson will wait for the market to shake out before signing with a team that needs a veteran quarterback.
The Owls will look to bounce back after a tough year in the AAC. They get a huge opportunity in week 1 when they travel to East Lansing to take on the Michigan State Spartans. The program is in a state of flux as new head coach Jonathan Smith takes over. If the Owls can catch the Spartans napping, they could pull off an upset to start the season.
Where will Casey Thompson end up? Many programs need a quarterback so I am sure he will have no trouble finding a new program eventually.
